NMB PMC PMA System Introduction

Published: May 13, 2026 Engineering Team

In the "micron-level battlefield" of precision manufacturing, NMB (Minebea Mitsumi)'s PMC and PMA are by no means ordinary combinations of bearings and parts. Instead, relying on more than 70 years of micro-bearing technology precipitation, they have created a pre-integrated, high-adaptability and fully self-developed precision transmission solution. These two products cover the entire scenario from standardized units to complex subsystems, and are almost the first choice for many manufacturers in the high-end fields of medical care, semiconductors and automobiles, especially in scenarios requiring high precision and reliability, it is difficult to bypass them.

Many people tend to confuse PMC and PMA. In fact, the core difference is very simple and can be summed up in one sentence: PMC is a part-level standardized or customized unit, while PMA is a complete subsystem that integrates more components and completes calibration and testing on the basis of PMC. It is worth mentioning that both PMC and PMA have their core bearings, shafts and seals fully independently developed and produced by NMB without any purchased parts. This is also the key to their stable precision - after all, the fit clearance of purchased parts is likely to affect the overall performance.

First, let's talk about PMC, the full name isPrecision Mechanical Components. It mainly takes NMB's self-produced high-precision micro ball bearings as the core, combined with shafts, pulleys, gears or seals to form a single-function component unit. Most of the time, the outer diameter does not exceed 22mm. Its biggest advantage is ready-to-install; customers can directly install it on the equipment without additional debugging. Its structure is relatively simple and its function is relatively single, such as only responsible for rotation or guidance, and the tolerance can be controlled at ±0.001mm level. Most of the office equipment and low-end automation equipment we usually see use PMC.

The mainstream models of PMC are actually not complicated. The most basic is the combination of micro bearings and shafts. For example, the detailed parameters of several common models are shown in the following table:

ModelOuter Diameter (mm)Inner Diameter (mm)Thickness (mm)Precision GradeCore Applications
MR104ZZ1043ABEC-53D printers, paper feed wheels of office equipment

693ZZ733ABEC-5Automotive small motors, silent transmission of home appliances

In addition to the basic models, there is also a high demand for customized pulley and tape guide PMC. Common models include PW12-05, GW16-08 and TW20-10. Their wheel surface precision can reach ±0.005mm, the dynamic balance grade is G2.5, and there will be no jitter during high-speed operation. The material can be aluminum, stainless steel or engineering plastic, and all of them integrate NMB's own 68 or 69 series bearings. Such PMC are basically used for semiconductor equipment tape guidance, 3D printer synchronous wheels and textile machinery tape guides.

The medical-grade shaft PMC should not be ignored, after all, medical equipment has extremely high requirements for precision and protection. Common models include MP08-03 and MP10-04, both of which are made of 316 stainless steel, as well as TP08-03 made of titanium alloy. The protection grade can reach IP68, which can resist the corrosion of normal saline and disinfectant, the noise is also controlled below 25dB, and it can run continuously for 10,000 hours without any problems. Such PMC are indispensable for medical peristaltic pumps, blood pumps and joints of surgical robots (by the way, the sealing performance of medical-grade PMC is much better than that of ordinary industrial-grade ones, which is also the key for it to adapt to medical scenarios).

Next, let's talk about PMA, the full name is Precision Mechanical Assembly. It is much more complex than PMC. It is equivalent to integrating magnets, injection molded parts, die castings and even sensor interfaces on the basis of PMC. Moreover, it will complete high-precision calibration and comprehensive tests such as temperature rise, vibration and noise before leaving the factory. Customers can directly embed it into the whole machine without secondary processing. Its structure is complex and its functions are more comprehensive. It can realize multiple functions such as rotation, transmission and positioning at the same time. The shaft runout can be controlled within 5μm, and it can support high-speed operation of 30,000rpm. It is mainly suitable for ultra-high precision and high reliability scenarios such as medical care and semiconductors.

The models of PMA are relatively scenario-oriented. For example, the high-speed transmission PMA suitable for automation and semiconductor fields has common models such as PM42S-N48_bi_MS70 and PM42S-N48_bi_MSPL. It integrates dual bearings, magnets and encoder interfaces, the rotating speed can reach 30,000rpm, the shaft runout does not exceed 5μm, and the protection grade is IP54. These two models are used for high-speed rotating shafts of placement machines, transmission units of optical fiber cutting knives and end effectors of industrial robots. However, sometimes small customized adjustments will be made according to the specific working conditions of customers.

The micro actuator PMA in the automotive field is also very representative. The main models are AP15-06 and AP20-08, both of which are high-temperature resistant models. They can work normally in the environment of -40℃ to +150℃, and are oil-resistant and vibration-resistant. They integrate special sealed bearings, and the service life can reach more than 50,000 hours. Many people may not know that NMB's share in the global throttle bearing market exceeds 60%. Tier 1 suppliers such as Bosch and Continental basically use these two PMA for their throttle actuators, wiper motors and EGR valves.

The medical integrated pump PMA is specially designed for medical scenarios. The models are HP12-05 and HP16-08, both with IP68 protection grade. It integrates bearings, eccentric wheels and sealing components, the noise is controlled below 25dB, and the heat generation is particularly low. It is very suitable for medical peristaltic pumps and blood analyzers. However, the delivery time of this PMA is relatively longer, after all, the testing link is much stricter than that of ordinary PMA.

In fact, many customers tend to make a mistake when selecting models, which is to replace PMA with PMC, especially in some high-precision scenarios. Doing so is likely to lead to problems such as excessive fit clearance, excessive noise and even insufficient service life. Here is also a simple suggestion for model selection, not too complicated, just choose according to the scenario: if it is office equipment, low-end automation or ordinary home appliances, choosing PMC is enough with high cost performance; if it is high-end medical care, semiconductors, high-end automotive fields and industrial robots, you must choose PMA, and reliability is the first priority.

In addition, there are two small reminders, which are also common problems in daily procurement: first, the delivery time. The delivery time of PMC is about 2-4 weeks, and the delivery time of PMA is 6-8 weeks because it involves molds and calibration, so emergency projects must be planned in advance; second, the price. The unit price of PMC is about 50-200 yuan, and the unit price of PMA is 200-1000 yuan. There is no need to blindly pursue high-end products. Choose according to your own equipment value and working conditions, and balance cost and reliability.

In general, the core value of NMB's PMC and PMA is to turn "uncertainty" in precision manufacturing into "certainty". Full independent R&D and production avoid precision risks, vertical integration and comprehensive testing reduce service life risks, and sufficient production capacity ensures stable delivery. PMC is a cost-effective choice, suitable for standardized and simple precision scenarios; PMA is a reliable choice, suitable for high-precision and high-value scenarios. Combined, they can basically cover all precision manufacturing needs from low-end to high-end, which is also the fundamental reason why NMB has been established in this field for more than 70 years.
